GUFFSTUFF is produced by Eve Harvey, UK administrator for GUFF – the Get Up Fan Fund or Go Under Fan Fund, depending on your point of view, which is set up to raise sufficient money to exchange periodically European and Australian fans. Administrators for the Fund, sitting ready to receive your donations, are:
Australian – Justin Ackroyd, PO Box 2708X, Melbourne, Vic 3001, Australia
British – Eve Harvey, 43 Harrow Road, Carshalton, Surrey, SM5 3QH, UK
THE STORY SO FAR...
Yes, I know I said the next issue was due out 1 May 1986, but that was before I decided to send most copies out with Wallbanger. Good sense when thinking of GUFF'S finances, but very bad sense when thinking of the time it always takes me to actually post out copies of Wallbanger once I've finished it. The upshot being that many people wouldn't have received their copies of GUFFSTUFF 1 until after the deadline. Knowing how fantastic the response would be, I decided to allow an extra month for the responses to come flooding in. Well, I'm still waiting, so it looks like we'll have to get some more exciting goodies together. I've done some more begging, and some of the recent assets are listed overleaf.
THE RACE IS ON...
As I said last time, the 1985 GUFF race took me to Melbourne in August last year. The next is up and running to bring an Aussie over to Conspiracy – the British Worldcon in August 1987. We now have a shortlist of those who have been nominated and ballot forms are enclosed. In addition to those listed on the ballot, Tim Jones, a New Zealand fan would like to be considered as a write-in vote. He had submitted nominators, but one of the two for Europe had to be disqualified since, although born in Europe, he hadn't been active in European fandom. I've already received some votes, so come on the rest of you, there's not much time left so get your ballot forms and money to me. Votes will be counted on 31 January 1987.
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY...
Many thanks to R EARNSHAW for his very kind donation which takes UK funds further away from zero, and to ROB HANSEN and ANDREW STEPHENSON for their donation of material. Not all of it has been put on sale immediately – I've got to keep you on tenderhooks a bit, you know!
TRIP REPORTS...
Status on publication of trip reports for past winners is as follows:–
- John Foyster (1979) – Chapters 1 & 2 appeared in his own fanzine Chunder 1 back in 1980 and 1981. At present no news of where 3 saw the light of day, and Chapter 4 is in Sikander 12. the latest issue of Irwin Hirsh's fanzine. For a copy of the latter, write to Irwin at 2/416 Dandenong Road, Caulfield North, Victoria 3161, Australia.
- Joseph Nicholas (1981) – notes still lost and his 'real soon now' appears to be receding even further into the future.
- Justin Ackroyd (1984) – I'm not sure at the present where Chapter 1 appeared, Chapters 2 & 3 were distributed through Frank's APA. Since this isn't widely available, I'd suggest you contact Justin at the address below the colophon for a copy if he's got any left. Chapter 4 will appear in a new fanzine to be edited by Irwin Hirsh and Perry Middlemiss. For a copy contact Irwin at the address above.
- Eve Harvey (1985) – part 1 appeared in my own Wallbanger 11, March 1986. Parts 2 and 3 (which cover Aussiecon 2 itself) will appear in Thyme (PO Box 273, Fitzroy 3065, Australia) and Sikander.
WHAT AM I BID FOR....
If anyone has any material they would like to donate – PLEASE DO. The absolutely overpowering result from last issue was one bid of £10 from Phil Stephenson-Payne for the copies of Ad Astra. He gets the special winner's prize of the lot, since no-one else appears interested. Below is an updated list of items for sale with minimum prices. Should I receive more than one offer for any item, first choice will go to the person offering the highest price; if there is more than one, first-come-first-served will reign.
